And Jesus answered and said to them: “Take heed that no one deceives you. For many will come in My name, saying, ‘I am the Christ,’ and will deceive many. Matthew 24:4

What our Pastors DO:

1. Our Pastors Preach the Gospel, NOT Prosperity Gospel, NOT Woke Gospel

2. Our Pastors are accessible, not hiding in a “green room” after church

3. Our Pastors pray for the sick - and have seen many miracle healings

4. Our Pastors see deliverances from spiritual strongholds & addictions

5. Our Pastors run a FREE online & in-person Leadership Training school

6. Our Pastors are Normal Pentecostals NOT Mystical Weirdos...

What our Pastors DON'T DO:

1. Our Pastors aren't celebrities who make you "honour" them by standing & clapping before they preach.

2. Our Pastors aren’t Life Coaches...preaching about "Your Best Life, Your potential, Your destiny…”

3.  Each new year isn’t a “New” Vision Slogan for the Year, “New” offering.

False Prophets -  Discernment

Accurate and solid theological beliefs are essential for both attaining salvation and progressing in spiritual development. It is evident from numerous warnings in the Bible that God cautions believers to be vigilant against erroneous teachings. Christians must possess the ability to identify false prophets in order to avoid straying from the intended path set by God.

The Tricks False Pastors use:

✓  The “Turn to your neighbour and say…” trick. This is just a way to force people to agree with them.

✓  The “listen to me repeat a catchphrase as if it were a Bible verse” trick. Because he needs these people to remember something, but he just can’t seem to fit an actual Bible passage into his frantic 25-minute speech…

✓  The “our church is really great, and just in case you don’t know how great it is, I’m gonna talk about it some more” trick. Why is it so important to continually prop up your church? You’re a pastor, not a salesman making a pitch, Glorify God!

✓  The “I don’t have time to read the Bible, but I’ve got time to talk about sports/TV shows/jokes…” trick. Everything that happens in your sermon is by your design, and you’re deciding to cut out God’s Word to make more room for yourself.

✓  The “here’s a really catchy name for my new sermon series that I’ll keep repeating” trick. You’re trying to get a book deal…We get it: without a new book you’ve got nothing to sell at the table when you go on the speaking circuit.

✓ The “let me brag about my luxurious lifestyle in front of the struggling people who paid for it” trick. You’re not setting an example of success, you’re taking money from people who will never live out the fantasies you sell them in the name of God. (They boast about their vintage $800 sneakers!)

✓ The “I hope you don’t notice that I’m just making up this prophetic utterance” trick. You want people to believe that God is speaking through you, you say “God told me..or Thus says the lord” to everything you say…

✓ The “something REALLY big is coming… (eventually)” trick. How many years have to pass before you finally stop saying this ambiguous, confusing and useless “word from the Lord?”

✓ The “shift in the atmosphere” trick. Is this the Christian Church or an episode of Ghost Hunters?

✓ The “I had a sermon all planned out but the holy spirit gave me something new just now trick”… Just a lazy preacher who lies about sermon preparation and couldn’t think of anything new & wants to appear spiritual to his congregation.

✓ The “don’t put God in a box” trick. Another way for you to justify your weird behaviour as the holy spirit moving…(In an increasing weirder way every time!)

✓ The “God spoke to me, so you pretty much have to believe whatever I say” trick. Don’t worry, hardly anyone will notice that this is exactly how all cults get started.

Does your pastor do this?…

1. The Pastor is Threatened by Smart Individuals

This is the pastor who can’t stand educated and discerning people who ask tough questions. You won’t find men with a high degree of theological knowledge hanging around for very long. This threatens his pride.

2. The Pastor is Obsessed with His Own Vision

This pastor knows exactly what he wants and his will, hmmm…I mean “God’s will” be done. Is his vision The great commission?

3. The Pastor Twists the Bible to Fit His Own Rules

Accountability, to this pastor, is about putting “yes” men in key positions. In most cases, this pastor will boast about his high level of accountability to appear trustworthy.

Standing for Truth, Integrity, and God’s Best — Freedom Church Cairns

At Freedom Church Cairns, we genuinely believe that God’s people deserve leaders who reflect Christ in both word and action. We know no church is perfect — including ours — but we are committed to pursuing God’s best with sincerity, humility, and transparency. Scripture calls believers to be discerning, especially when it comes to spiritual leadership. The Bible warns about false prophets, distorted gospels, and leaders who misuse their influence, and we take those warnings seriously because we care deeply for the people God has entrusted to us.

Our heart is simple: Jesus must remain the centre.

A church without the power of the Holy Spirit, without genuine repentance, and without the life-changing message of the cross is not the church Christ intended.

We believe the gospel should be preached with clarity, courage, and compassion — not twisted for personal gain or diluted to keep people comfortable.

We’re not here to entertain or manipulate; we’re here to preach Christ crucified and to see lives transformed by His power.

Because of that, we do not tolerate leadership that exploits people financially, lives in unrepentant immorality, or steals the glory that belongs only to God. Pastors and leaders are called to serve, not to be served. They must model humility, purity, generosity, and accountability. When leaders drift into pride, deception, or selfish ambition, the entire church suffers.

We refuse to allow that. At Freedom Church Cairns, we expect our leaders — including our pastors — to live with integrity, to walk closely with God, to repent quickly, and to lead by example in holiness and love.

At the same time, we remain warm, welcoming, and full of grace toward every person who walks through our doors. We don’t shame people, and we don’t look down on anyone’s past or present battles. But we will always point people toward the truth of Scripture, the call to holiness, and the freedom that comes only through Jesus. But we do hold leaders and Pastors to much higher standard than regular church members.

If your desire is a church that preaches the gospel boldly, honours God’s Word, pursues the power of the Holy Spirit, and upholds godly character in leadership, you’ll find a home here. Our mission is to love people well, preach Jesus faithfully, and build a church that reflects His heart.

Freedom Church Cairns — where truth and grace walk side by side.

32 Bible verses about False Prophets (there are many more)

Jeremiah 5:30-31

“An astonishing and horrible thing

Has been committed in the land: The prophets prophesy falsely,

And the priests rule by their own power;

And My people love to have it so.

But what will you do in the end?

Jeremiah 23:1-4

“Woe to the shepherds who destroy and scatter the sheep of My pasture!” says the LORD.

Therefore thus says the LORD God of Israel against the shepherds who feed My people:

“You have scattered My flock,

driven them away,

and not attended to them.

Behold, I will attend to you for the evil of your doings,” says the LORD.

“But I will gather the remnant of My flock out of all countries where I have driven them, and bring them back to their folds;

and they shall be fruitful and increase.

I will set up shepherds over them who will feed them;

and they shall fear no more,

nor be dismayed,

nor shall they be lacking,” says the LORD.

Jeremiah 23:13

“And I have seen folly in the prophets of Samaria:

They prophesied by Baal

And caused My people Israel to err.

Also I have seen a horrible thing in the prophets of Jerusalem:

They commit adultery and walk in lies;

Jeremiah 23:17

They continually say to those who despise Me,

“The LORD has said, ‘You shall have peace” ’;

And to everyone who walks according to the dictates of his own heart, they say,

‘No evil shall come upon you.’ ”

Jeremiah 23:21

“I have not sent these prophets, yet they ran.

I have not spoken to them, yet they prophesied.

Jeremiah 23:25

“I have heard what the prophets have said who prophesy lies in My name, saying, ‘I have dreamed, I have dreamed!’

Jeremiah 23:26-27

How long will this be in the heart of the prophets who prophesy lies? Indeed they are prophets of the deceit of their own heart, who try to make My people forget My name by their dreams which everyone tells his neighbor, as their fathers forgot My name for Baal.

Jeremiah 23:32

Behold, I am against those who prophesy false dreams,” says the LORD, “and tell them, and cause My people to err by their lies and by their recklessness. Yet I did not send them or command them; therefore they shall not profit this people at all,” says the LORD.

Matthew 23:1-36

Then Jesus spoke to the multitudes and to His disciples, saying: “The scribes and the Pharisees sit in Moses’ seat. Therefore whatever they tell you to observe, that observe and do, but do not do according to their works; for they say, and do not do. For they bind heavy burdens, hard to bear, and lay them on men’s shoulders; but they themselves will not move them with one of their fingers.

But all their works they do to be seen by men. They make their phylacteries broad and enlarge the borders of their garments. They love the best places at feasts, the best seats in the synagogues, greetings in the marketplaces, and to be called by men, ‘Rabbi, Rabbi.’ But you, do not be called ‘Rabbi’; for One is your Teacher, the Christ, and you are all brethren. Do not call anyone on earth your father; for One is your Father, He who is in heaven. And do not be called teachers; for One is your Teacher, the Christ. But he who is greatest among you shall be your servant. And whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.

“But woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you shut up the kingdom of heaven against men; for you neither go in yourselves, nor do you allow those who are entering to go in.

Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you devour widows’ houses, and for a pretense make long prayers. Therefore you will receive greater condemnation.

“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you travel land and sea to win one proselyte, and when he is won, you make him twice as much a son of hell as yourselves.

Woe to you, blind guides, who say, Whoever swears by the temple, it is nothing; but whoever swears by the gold of the temple, he is obliged to perform it.’ Fools and blind! For which is greater, the gold or the temple that sanctifies the gold? And, ‘Whoever swears by the altar, it is nothing; but whoever swears by the gift that is on it, he is obliged to perform it.’ Fools and blind! For which is greater, the gift or the altar that sanctifies the gift? Therefore he who swears by the altar, swears by it and by all things on it. He who swears by the temple, swears by it and by Him who dwells in it. And he who swears by heaven, swears by the throne of God and by Him who sits on it.

Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you pay tithe of mint and anise and cummin, and have neglected the weightier matters of the law: justice and mercy and faith. These you ought to have done, without leaving the others undone.

Blind guides, who strain out a gnat and swallow a camel!

Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you cleanse the outside of the cup and dish, but inside they are full of extortion and self-indulgence. Blind Pharisee, first cleanse the inside of the cup and dish, that the outside of them may be clean also.

Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are like whitewashed tombs which indeed appear beautiful outwardly, but inside are full of dead men’s bones and all uncleanness. Even so you also outwardly appear righteous to men, but inside you are full of hypocrisy and lawlessness.

Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! Because you build the tombs of the prophets and adorn the monuments of the righteous, and say, ‘If we had lived in the days of our fathers, we would not have been partakers with them in the blood of the prophets.’

“Therefore you are witnesses against yourselves that you are sons of those who murdered the prophets. Fill up, then, the measure of your fathers’ guilt. Serpents, brood of vipers! How can you escape the condemnation of hell?

Therefore, indeed, I send you prophets, wise men, and scribes: some of them you will kill and crucify, and some of them you will scourge in your synagogues and persecute from city to city, that on you may come all the righteous blood shed on the earth, from the blood of righteous Abel to the blood of Zechariah, son of Berechiah, whom you murdered between the temple and the altar. Assuredly, I say to you, all these things will come upon this generation.

1 Corinthians 1:17-18, 23

For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel, not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of no effect. For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. …but we preach Christ crucified,…”

1 Corinthians 1: 26-29

For you see your calling, brethren, that not many wise according to the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called. But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty; and the base things of the world and the things which are despised God has chosen, and the things which are not, to bring to nothing the things that are, that no flesh should glory in His presence.

1 Corinthians 2: 1-5

And I, brethren, when I came to you, did not come with excellence of speech or of wisdom declaring to you the testimony of God. For I determined not to know anything among you except Jesus Christ and Him crucified. I was with you in weakness, in fear, and in much trembling. And my speech and my preaching were not with persuasive words of human wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power, that your faith should not be in the wisdom of men but in the power of God.

1 Corinthians 4:20

For the kingdom of God is not in word but in power.

2 Corinthians 4:2-3

But we have renounced the hidden things of shame, not walking in craftiness nor handling the word of God deceitfully, but by manifestation of the truth commending ourselves to every man's conscience in the sight of God. But even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing,

2 Corinthians 4:5

For we do not preach ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord, and ourselves your bondservants for Jesus’ sake.

2 Corinthians 6:3

We give no offense in anything, that our ministry may not be blamed.

2 Corinthians 10:18

For not he who commends himself is approved, but whom the Lord commends.

2 Corinthians 11:4

For if he who comes preaches another Jesus whom we have not preached, or if you receive a different spirit which you have not received, or a different gospel which you have not accepted—you may well put up with it!

2 Corinthians 10:14-15

And no wonder! For Satan himself transforms himself into an angel of light. Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also transform themselves into ministers of righteousness, whose end will be according to their works.

2 Corinthians 10:20

For you put up with it if one brings you into bondage, if one devours you, if one takes from you, if one exalts himself, if one strikes you on the face.

2 Corinthians 12:12

Truly the signs of an apostle were accomplished among you with all perseverance, in signs and wonders and mighty deeds.

Galatians 1:6-10

I marvel that you are turning away so soon from Him who called you in the grace of Christ, to a different gospel, which is not another; but there are some who trouble you and want to pervert the gospel of Christ. But even if we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel to you than what we have preached to you, let him be accursed. As we have said before, so now I say again, if anyone preaches any other gospel to you than what you have received, let him be accursed.

For do I now persuade men, or God? Or do I seek to please men? For if I still pleased men, I would not be a bondservant of Christ.

Galatians 5:13

For you, brethren, have been called to liberty; only do not use liberty as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another.

1 Thessalonians 1:5

For our gospel did not come to you in word only, but also in power, and in the Holy Spirit and in much assurance, as you know what kind of men we were among you for your sake.

1 Thessalonians 2:3-6

For our exhortation did not come from error or uncleanness, nor was it in deceit.

But as we have been approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel, even so we speak, not as pleasing men, but God who tests our hearts. For neither at any time did we use flattering words, as you know, nor a cloak for covetousness—God is witness. Nor did we seek glory from men, either from you or from others, when we might have made demands as apostles of Christ.

1 Timothy 1:3-7

As I urged you when I went into Macedonia—remain in Ephesus that you may charge some that they teach no other doctrine, nor give heed to fables and endless genealogies, which cause disputes rather than godly edification which is in faith. Now the purpose of the commandment is love from a pure heart, from a good conscience, and from sincere faith, from which some, having strayed, have turned aside to idle talk, desiring to be teachers of the law, understanding neither what they say nor the things which they affirm.

1 Timothy 4:1-3

Now the Spirit expressly says that in latter times some will depart from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons, speaking lies in hypocrisy, having their own conscience seared with a hot iron, forbidding to marry, and commanding to abstain from foods which God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and know the truth.

1 Timothy 5:3-5

If anyone teaches otherwise and does not consent to wholesome words, even the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, and to the doctrine which accords with godliness, he is proud, knowing nothing, but is obsessed with disputes and arguments over words, from which come envy, strife, reviling, evil suspicions, useless wranglings of men of corrupt minds and destitute of the truth, who suppose that godliness is a means of gain. From such withdraw yourself.

2 Timothy 4:2-5

Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables. But you be watchful in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry.

1 Peter 5:2-4

Shepherd the flock of God which is among you, serving as overseers, not by compulsion but willingly, not for dishonest gain but eagerly; nor as being lords over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock; and when the Chief Shepherd appears, you will receive the crown of glory that does not fade away.

2 Peter 2:1-3

But there were also false prophets among the people, even as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Lord who bought them, and bring on themselves swift destruction. And many will follow their destructive ways, because of whom the way of truth will be blasphemed. By covetousness they will exploit you with deceptive words; for a long time their judgment has not been idle, and their destruction does not slumber.

Jude 1:8

Likewise also these dreamers defile the flesh, reject authority, and speak evil of dignitaries.

REV 3:15-20

“I know your works, that you are neither cold nor hot. I could wish you were cold or hot. So then, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will vomit you out of My mouth. Because you say, “I am rich, have become wealthy, and have need of nothing’—and do not know that you are wretched, miserable, poor, blind, and naked— I counsel you to buy from Me gold refined in the fire, that you may be rich; and white garments, that you may be clothed, that the shame of your nakedness may not be revealed; and anoint your eyes with eye salve, that you may see. As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten. Therefore be zealous and repent. Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me.
