At Freedom Church Cairns, we are passionate about taking the message of Jesus beyond the walls of our church. Our local street and shopping centre outreach is a vital part of how we connect with the people of Cairns and the thousands of backpackers who pass through our city every year. We believe that the gospel is meant to be shared boldly, practically, and with love—right where people live, work, and travel.
Our outreach teams are trained to engage with people in everyday environments—shopping centres, streets, parks, and other public spaces. We provide a warm, friendly presence, offering prayer, encouragement, and conversations about life, hope, and faith in Jesus. Every encounter is an opportunity to show Christ’s love, listen to people’s struggles, and point them to the hope found in Him.
Backpackers, in particular, often come to Cairns searching for meaning, purpose, and connection. Our outreach ministry meets them where they are, offering not just practical help or information about local resources, but also spiritual guidance and the message of salvation. Many have never experienced real community or been invited to encounter Jesus personally, and our teams aim to provide both.
This ministry is hands-on, practical, and relational. Participants learn how to share the gospel naturally, pray with others, and build trust quickly in short encounters. It’s also deeply rewarding—seeing lives impacted, relationships formed, and people encounter God’s love in real ways.
At Freedom Church Cairns, we don’t just send people out to talk about Jesus—we equip, mentor, and journey alongside them, ensuring every outreach is effective, respectful, and spiritually fruitful. Our goal is to see Cairns transformed by the gospel and backpackers leave with more than just memories—they leave with hope, faith, and the love of Christ.
